Project Description
Ölümsüz Ağaçlar (Immortal Trees) is a mixed media, rotoscoped animation project that combines photographs of children affected by warzones and conflict areas with handdrawn illustrations. The project aims to reflect that a safe childhood is a human right that should be granted to every child on the world. The photographs that are chosen are not graphically explicit but rather have an emotional quality that reflect the day to day living conditions of the children. Each photograph is tranformed into an illustrated version with handdrawn illustrations, progressing in a frame by frame movement style.
Artist Statement
One thing that is known for sure is that violence has become extremely normalized. Any type of war or conflict inevitably includes the human factor, in all truth a vicious cycle is present when it comes to the relationship between humans and violence; since we are the once harvesting it in the first place. The most neglected part of this equation, is without doubt, children.
One might argue that the artist and her work are inseperable; or even interdependent. My personal journey in the past year led me into creating something that is close to home, both figuratively and literally. Living under the shadow of a civil war and personally witnessing the aftermath of the Syrian conflict, I imagined an alternative reality for all the children. Ölümsüz Ağaçlar (Immortal Trees) is the alternative universe that my imagination came up with in the end.
